Mission Statement
Aghosh UK is a UK-based charity (Charity Reg 1178778) focused on alleviating poverty in Pakistan and globally by working in partnership with Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, a community-led relief NGO in Pakistan that has a reach to all parts of Pakistan and AJK. Aghosh UK is led by UK-based professionals who grew up in Pakistan and have knowledge and experience of how poverty affects the lives of those living in it. Troubled by the plight of those living in dire conditions, these professionals and their families have been regularly supporting orphans and the poor. With this background, they set up Aghosh UK so that the public at large in the UK can join them in this journey. Aghosh UK is established on the philosophy that Relief should be delivered through trustworthy and effective local community organisations with direct and immediate knowledge of the realities of the communities and individuals that require support. That support is delivered with integrity and respect.
About This Cause
Our dedicated services include disaster management, health services, education, orphan care, clean water, Mawakhat (interest-free loan) and other community services. AGHOSH UK in partnership with Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is working on the following programs. Orphan Family Support Program The OFSP is another support-based program designed by the Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan for orphan children of underprivileged backgrounds. Under this program, the orphan children selected for the provision of support continue to live with their mothers are any other guardians in the case of the death of both parents. While this program provides necessary financial support for educational and everyday finances for orphan children aged 16 or below, the Orphan Family Support Program ensures comprehensive mental, social and moral growth of the sponsored children through a comprehensive multi-module framework. This financial support includes school fees and an allowance on a quarterly basis along with regular provision of an educational kit which includes a school bag, curriculum books, stationery, seasonal uniforms and shoes. Additionally, the Child Character Development Program has also been designed for the moral and social growth of the sponsored children. For the selection of the orphan children to be sponsored under the OFSP, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan relies on the network of its volunteers which is effectively operational in all 135 districts of Pakistan. These volunteers identify potential candidates and refer them to our Family Support Organizers (FSOs). The FSOs assess all the referred children through personal visits and other means to prepare their cases along with required additional documentation to forward them to regional offices for further verification. The regional offices verify the authenticity of provided documents and assess the cases on need-based criteria through a local team of volunteers and community members. Later on, all the forwarded cases are discussed individually and approved for database entry where they are offered to the donors for funding. Facilities For OFSP Children Direct transfer of amount in the bank account of the orphan’s mother to help her bear the sustenance expenditure of her orphan child. Alkhidmat keeps complete track of his/her educational progress of a sponsored child through the appointed cluster in charge. Routine physical health screening of the child and mother is ensured. If a child is diagnosed with some medical treatment, OFSP also arranges for the treatment. For a moral upbringing of the children and their mothers, Study Centres have been established where children and their mothers visit regularly. Alkhidmat provides interest-free loans to the mothers of orphan children to help them become self-reliant members of society. For this purpose, mothers are given cattle, and sewing machines or sometimes they are given loans to start their businesses. Aghosh Homes offer unmatchable boarding and lodging facilities on the pattern of a Cadet College and reshapes the personality of students. Aghosh Alkhidmat Homes provides excellent Lodging, Education and Health Care facilities for around 2,000 Orphans in 22 Aghosh Homes across Pakistan. Disaster Management Disaster is a word that brings thousands of perilous thoughts to one’s mind. It reminds us of the unfortunate time of the 2005 deadly earthquake that struck northern areas of Pakistan, killing thousands of people and leaving millions of the population homeless. In 2010 as well, a cruel flood washed out a huge part of Pakistan. Occasional incidents of terrorism, accidents and other catastrophes have also played a key role in increasing human suffering in Pakistan. Now recent devastating floods have destroyed millions of families in Baluchistan, Sindh and South Punjab. Children have lost their parents, households collapsed, and livestock perished while floods washed away a year's worth of wheat Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, committed to its cause of service to humanity, has been working tirelessly in the field of Disaster Management and our contributions during floods, earthquakes and other calamities are badges of honour for the team. Now To build a safer and disaster resilient Pakistan, by developing a holistic, proactive, multi-disaster and technology-driven strategy for Alkhidmat DMP to all hazards.” Aghosh UK’s humanitarian mission in supporting Palestine is a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing aid and assistance to those in need. Through various initiatives and efforts, Aghosh UK stands as a beacon of hope for those affected by the ongoing challenges in Palestine. Enabling access to Clean and Safe Water Pakistan is on its way to becoming a water-deficient country as it already stands at 30th position among the most water-deficient countries in the world. Safe drinking water is one of Pakistan’s most immediate and crucial problems that demands the earliest actions to be taken for its resolution. Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is practically active in ensuring the provision of clean drinking water by installing hand pumps in arid lands, drilling water wells in remote water-scarce areas, installing water-filtration plants in cities, and supplying water to homes in villages through its water schemes. Alkhidmat Clean Water Program takes every possible measure according to the needs of the water-scarce regions to implement its mission. Health Sector The World Health Organization (WHO) has enlisted Pakistan among 57 countries with critical health workforce deficiency while the country is placed at 122nd position in terms of quality of healthcare facilities. Unfortunately, Pakistan stands high on the list of top countries with extreme infant mortality. Being conscious of the situation, Alkhidmat Health Foundation has established a countrywide network to provide the best healthcare facilities to the public, irrespective of their socio-economic status. Several Hospitals, Clinics / Dispensaries, Diagnostic Centres and Blood Banks, Mobile Medical Camps and Ambulances are functional effectively across the country including landmark projects in remote and under-developed areas such as Tharparkar (Sindh) and Quetta (Baluchistan). All healthcare projects ranging from a routine OPD check-up to a specialized procedure, are provided to the needy and poor for free. Education Sector Education is the only solution for humanity to prosper. To help every child get an education, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has taken the lead among all its competitors by providing education through free schooling and rehabilitation support to poor and needy children. Alkhidmat’s helpful undertakings encircle all matters and issues related to education in Pakistan. Child Protection Centres and Alfalah Scholarship schemes are helping thousands of underprivileged children. Without any discrimination, we provide equal opportunities to all talented and deserving students across the country. Male and female students are equal in the ratio in the beneficiaries list of our education programs as we are pursuing the goal of a 100 per cent literacy rate in Pakistan. Community Services Alkhidmat Community Services addresses suffering caused by poverty, physical disabilities and imprisonment through its various initiatives. It addresses these issues by organising the various humanitarian projects across Pakistan. Mawakhat (interest-free loan) Mawakhat brought great benefits for both the Muhajirs and Ansars as Allah blessed both of them with plenty of affection and increased the utility of their shared wealth (Barkah). With a sense of gratitude, Muhajirs loved and respected Ansars and worked hard to earn their livelihood and Ansars respected their efforts and appreciated them to excel and prosper.
