Mission Statement
We are a voluntary community committed to raising funds to research a cure for mesothelioma. ERASE MESO OBJECTIVES 1. Fund scientific research into mesothelioma to help find a cure or at least a way of maintaining this disease. 2. Raise awareness of mesothelioma.
About This Cause
Mesothelioma is a devastating terminal cancer, caused by exposure to asbestos dust and fibres. The UK has the highest incidence of mesothelioma in the world.. last year more than 5,000 people died from this disease. More than 12 people are diagnosed every day and it's rising every year. Despite the dangers of asbestos, it is still found in 50% of UK homes and 90% of NHS hospitals. ERASE MESO is the brainchild of Paul Cook, who was diagnosed with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma in November 2017 at 43 years old. He has endured 6 rounds of chemo, surgery and radiotherapy since then. He has changed diet and exercises every day. Paul now has 1.5 working lungs, has been in remission since June 2018 and is grateful for every day. To help raise awareness and funds he will be cycling approximately 1000 miles in 10 days from Lands End to John O’Groats with a team of 17 amateurs in September 2019. Paul will be joined by fellow meso-warrior Nigel Shaddick. This is the first attempt at LEJOG for ANY mesothelioma sufferer, so we are very proud of them for taking on such a challenge given the nature of this cancer.
