Mission Statement
Queercircle is an LGBTQ+ led charity working at the intersection of arts, culture and social action. Our permanent home in North Greenwich and community focused programme strengthens links between culture, health and wellbeing.
About This Cause
Our groundbreaking community focused programme celebrates queer identity, champions arts and culture, and supports the health and wellbeing of our community. In the last decade, we have seen the closure of over 50% of LGBTQ+ spaces in London, and witnessed the staggering loss of artist's studios. Working at this intersection, QUEERCIRCLE will support LGBTQ+ artists and community members, offering them opportunities to experiment with new and challenging ideas; devise and deliver an engaging, dynamic and creative programme; and build a strong and supportive community. To achieve this, we have developed an annual programme of physical and digital exhibition commissions, collaborative artist residencies, and development and learning opportunities. Our month-long CATALYST periods between exhibitions will provide other LGBTQ+ organisations space free of charge to devise, develop and deliver further exciting initiatives for the LGBTQ+ community. Our aims and objectives are: •provide a safe environment in which LGBTQ+ people can connect, create and strengthen community; •support the production and presentation of art by LGBTQ+ artists; •create opportunities for the public to access and engage with LGBTQ+ arts and culture in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4 "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"; •promote respect for LGBTQ+ diversity and cultural expression, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #11; •create opportunities for international cultural exchange and interaction between LGBTQ+ artists; •strengthen links between culture and health to promote the mental well-being of LGBTQ+ people, in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #3 "Good Health and Well-Being for All"; •address inequalities relating to cultural identity, social justice and human rights in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #10 "Reduce Inequality within and among countries"; •increase diversity in the cultural and creative sectors by helping to create education, work experience and wider career and employment opportunities for LGBTQ+ people in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #8 "Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
