Mission Statement
Allumuah Roots is a non-profit social impact organisation registered with the charity commission with headquarters in London, UK. Our mission is to plant sustainable social centres in Ghana and across sub-Saharan Africa at locations where the unprivileged people need them the most. Creating safe spaces that amplify the importance of community and engage the people within it. Our social spaces are also the ideal opportunity for staff and members of the institution to interact without the barrier of intimidation that often comes with professional hierarchy. Creating a level playing field and improving communication. In this way, it enables the organisation to think more creatively and share ideas much more dynamically.
About This Cause
Our first project 'Kaneshie Library' was initiated in October 2019, when we converted a shipping container into a library for children in Kaneshie, Accra, Ghana. From literacy classes, workshops, and monthly excursions to weekly meditation sessions, we have an extensive program that s frequently refreshed to keep the children engaged. We’ve created a space that benefits the community exponentially, not only by allowing the children to absorb and expand their knowledge - but binds the children in Kaneshie even closer together. When we opened the library in 2019, there were 11 registered members, 9 boys, and two girls. The average daily attendance at the beginning of 2020 was 9. Over the months/years, the numbers increased and today, in 2022, there are 54 children registered at the library, with an average daily attendance of 25. The number of girls registered in the library has also increased and is now 49 with a daily attendance of 19. Our numbers receive a huge spike in the holiday periods as children registered from neighboring areas are able to travel with their parents. Moreover, during the three years since it has been opened, some of the attendees leave for higher education (SHS), so are only limited to attending during vacations. We have a high percentage of children who are being raised in poverty that is academically challenged and in need of further educational support. In recent years, specifically those children's skills in reading and knowledge have vastly improved through our daily support in homework and reading classes. Accompanying this academic support, we host creative workshops which have spanned from arts/crafts to skincare days, and bi-monthly excursions - giving the children further exposure and knowledge around different career paths.
