Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote economic, political, and social equity for black communities in Britain in order to ensure equal opportunity for progress and prosperity. Our efforts will endorse and amplify black voices, black talent, black enterprise, and black excellence in Britain.
About This Cause
BEO is the UK’s first national civil rights organisation for Black people, launched in May 2022. Its overarching aim is to dismantle systemic racism and achieve lasting improvement for the lives of Black communities in the UK, so that Black people no longer face discrimination and can self-determine their lives equitably and with the same level of access to opportunities as White communities. Our purpose is to be an advocate and guardian for the black community in the UK –delivering equality, inclusion, and empowerment through action. Our vision is to realise the empowerment, self-determination, and welfare of black people in the UK, and to be a credible and effective catalyst for dismantling structural racism within British society. Our analysis shows that the systemic racism Black people face is mostly founded across six key policy areas, which are all interlinked. These inform BEO’s work and provide the foundations for our six pillars of focus, which are: 1.Economic empowerment and equity of opportunity; 2.Justice, immigration, and rights; 3.Health, wellness, and care; 4.Education; 5.Neighborhood and housing and6.Culture, awareness, representation, and respect. Our values 1.The fundamental importance of EQUITY AND INCLUSION–we want to create a society in which all individuals have equitable rights without discrimination based on race [or any other identity characteristic]. 2.The power of EVIDENCE BASED ACTION–we will use the power of data and evidence to help us decide where we should focus our energy and to establish solutions to address systemic change. 3.The legacy of AMBITION – our work will be done when the UK is an equitable place for all. 4.The responsibility of delivering SUSTAINABLE IMPACT- we will deliver our workin sustainable ways which have limited impact on the environment. 5.The mobilising effect of PURPOSEFUL COLLABORATION – we will work in allyship at all levels with others who share our ambitions -creating coalitions of the willing to build consensus and drive lasting change, centering the experiences of those affected by racism and promoting excellence. 6.The importance of ACCOUNTABILITY– we will work in service to the Black community and wider British public, ensuring we hold ourselves and others to account.
