Mission Statement
We’re the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), one of the UK’s leading sight loss charities and the largest community of blind and partially sighted people. We recognise everyone’s unique experience of sight loss and offer help and support for blind and partially sighted people – this can be anything from practical and emotional support, campaigning for change, reading services and the products we offer in our online shop. Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight. RNIB has a crucial role to play in creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss. We want society, communities and individuals to see differently about sight loss.
About This Cause
RNIB priorities are to: 1: Equip people with sight loss - by providing the tools which enable blind and partially sighted people to take on the world 2: Mobilise the community - through a platform that enables blind and partially sighted people to connect and build a self-sustaining supportive community 3: Change society - by increasing the public’s understanding and changing perception of sight loss Around 2 million people are affected by sight loss in the UK today and life can be tough, from difficulty accessing timely treatment and services, to a lack of emotional and practical support. Each face their own unique challenges. The number of people affected by sight loss will double by 2050, affecting one of us every three minutes, be it from birth or later in life. We need to find new solutions, new ways to build a world where the equal participation of blind and partially sighted people is the norm and not an oversight.
