Mission Statement

The Lewisham Toy Library aims at enabling the children aged 0 to 8 of the Borough of Lewisham and surroundings to reach their full potential by giving them access to a wide range of educational toys.

About This Cause

The charity, located in a popular shopping centre, is open three days a week. During opening hours, members - parents and children- come to choose up to 5 toys that they can borrow for up to 4 weeks. The librarian is there to help them in their choice of suitable toys for children according to their age and needs. We serve a wide range of population from all origins reflecting the very diverse population of the borough. We have toys for children with special needs, outdoor toys, games, jigsaw, story sacks, etc. Our primary aim is to widen the playing and learning scope of our members. Through playing, children can improve concentration and perseverance skills. They acquire thinking, reasoning and problem solving skills. They develop gross and fine motor skills. Playing encourages a positive attitude towards challenge and develop abilities related to social interactions and emotional understanding. Our secondary aim is to reduce environmental impact by encouraging borrowing versus buying.
