About This Cause
Improving life for people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses in Suffolk. St Elizabeth Hospice is here for people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses. We offer expert care and support to help them, and their families, maximise the potential from the time they have left. St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses. Our work is centred around an individual's needs. We provide specialist support wherever it is needed, in your home, in the community or at our hospice. We aim to improve life for people living with progressive illness and life-limiting conditions, and their families in the East Suffolk and Great Yarmouth and Waveney areas. Every year over 3,000 patients and their families receive care from St Elizabeth Hospice. Our work is centred on the individual's needs and we provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether that is in your home, another setting in the community or at our Inpatient Unit or day services. We employ over 320 staff who make up a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, doctors, nurses, care assistants and therapists (including physio, occupational health, art, emotional health and wellbeing and spiritual) as well corporate services to run the organisation and income generation. We support patients and their families via our Inpatient Unit, providing day services on site including outpatient’s clinics, home visits from our community nursing, medical or therapy team, our OneCall 24/7 telephone helpline and bereavement support. Zest supports young adults aged 14 and upwards with progressive and/or life-limiting illnesses/conditions to ensure that they get the specialist palliative care, tailored treatment and services they need to be able to enjoy life to the full. The majority of our services are free to the end user. The exception is young adults who may manage their own personal health budget and choose to contribute towards the Zest programme. Every month, over 100 St Elizabeth Hospice patients complete their life’s journey in our care. Each year it costs around £12.9 million to deliver all our care services and run the organisation, including support in Great Yarmouth and Waveney. 70% of our hospice costs have to be raised by us, 30% comes from services commissioned by the NHS.
