Mission Statement
We are a vibrant charity providing opportunities to bring the community together in Holloway, north London. We run two great ventures, The Old Fire Station and Stress Project. We run a multi-purpose community centre, for people of all ages, at the Old Fire Station, and we provide low cost counselling services and complementary therapies for people with stress related illness and mental health problems at Stress Project.
About This Cause
Holloway Neighbourhood Group is a pioneering charity which provides a range of services to people of all ages in Holloway so that they can lead positive, fulfilled lives as part of a community. The two main areas of our work are: The Old Fire Station- a multi-purpose community centre providing activities and events and also offering space for hire. We currently run a variety of activities including; a weekly lunch club for senior members of the local community, exercise classes, a weekly film club, bingo, a sewing class and a gardening group; as well as other one-off events and regular groups. and The Stress Project – providing complementary therapies and counselling services to people experiencing mental health problems and stress related illness. Therapy rooms can also be rented by external therapists. The Stress Project currently runs two drop-in sessions a week where people can access 'taster-sessions' of the complementary therapies we offer and emotional and social support, as well as various open-access group sessions such as Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga. History of HNG: In the early 1970’s a group of local people who were concerned about the lack of facilities and services for local families and people experiencing mental health issues got together to see what they could do to bring about change. As a result of their hard work and community activity Holloway Neighbourhood Group was established. Over the years we have worked with many different communities in the Holloway area, including pre-school children, parents, people with mental health problems, elders and unemployed people.
