Mission Statement

The Calthorpe Community Garden is an inner city community hub engaging people of all ages, cultures and abilities via programmes of horticulture and sport. Our mission is to improve the physical and emotional well-being of those who live, work or study in Camden and surrounding areas.

About This Cause

The Calthorpe Community Garden stands on a 1/2-hectare site in the heart of Kings Cross. Our programme of activities aims to: develop horticultural skills and confidence through volunteering; reduce isolation; increase environmental awareness; improve health and well-being; give children safe and positive leisure activities and; encourage the integration of the many diverse cultures living in the area. Open 7 days a week, we achieve our aims through the following programmes: • A horticultural volunteering and training programme for older people, people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. • Sustainable food growing incorporating an innovative closed loop food cycle and food waste recycling demonstration site, allotments for local residents and a food bank for vulnerable people. • Supervised arts and environmental activities for children aged 0-14 and their families during weekends and school holidays. • Sports development including football coaching and training for disabled people, children, women and young people. We also deliver walking football for older people. • Community classes and workshops delivered by ourselves and in partnership with local volunteers and groups e.g. Tai Chi, art, Explorer Scouts, cooking classes, embroidery, meditation and tennis.
