Mission Statement

The Elizabeth Foundation is a national charity with over 40 years experience supporting deaf infants and pre-school children. Thecharity is proud to faciliate the early diagnosis of deafness and to directly help babies and young children with all degrees of deafness to learn to listen and speak. It does this by providing outstanding pre-school education services at its Family Centre as well as delivering a free online learning programme. The charity helps parents from the point of their childs diagnosis too, transferring the skills and knowledge they need to maintain their own mental health and to build the resilience and knowledge they will need to advocate on behalf of their deaf child.

About This Cause

The Elizabeth Foundation is a UK registered charity supporting deaf and hearing impaired children aged 0 – 5 right across the UK. We have over 41 years’ experience in the delivery and management of outstanding education and welfare services for deaf children, their parents and other professionals, with a qualified, passionate and dedicated professional team. Our aim is to teach the children in our care to learn to listen and speak by the age of 5 so that they can join school as joyous, confident and capable communicators, with strong self-esteem and self-confidence. We give parents the confidence, knowledge & skills they need to make informed decisions too, empowering them to help their child develop vital communication, early learning and social-emotional skills. We share our knowledge and expertise widely with like minded professionals and students, always striving to achieve the best outcomes for future generations of deaf children. Our aims are met through the delivery of a wide range of face to face and online services, all of which have been accredited as "outstanding" by external professional bodies. • First class education and communication services for deaf/hearing impaired children aged 0 – 5 (baby, toddler and pre-school classes) . • A unique summer Residential Programme - we welcome deaf children, their parents, siblings and even grandparents for an intensive week of learning and support. • Specialist language and communication support groups for children with conductive hearing loss, Down Syndrome and complex needs. • Let’s Listen and Talk – a national home learning programme reaching out to families & professionals right across the UK, and even further afield, who are unable to attend our family centre. As at March 2023, we have over 1,000 beneficiaries on this programme. • Bespoke speech and language therapy – tailored to the individual needs, family life and culture of each child. • Audiological services – including early intervention, provision of guidance on the regular use/maintenance of hearing aid equipment and cochlear implants. • Parent and family support – guiding families through their sense of loss and fear, raising expectations for their deaf childs future, and helping parents to make their childs life better. Why are our services needed? Without early intervention deaf children suffer from profound and long-lasting challenges, including; • Impaired communication (verbal and written) leading to isolation, frustration and often poor academic results as the child grows • Poor social interaction • High levels of anxiety, low self- esteem and poor mental health. • Poor academic achievement. • Difficulty learning to cope independently as adults. • An inability to express needs/ wants or to understand the needs and wants of others. The great news however is that with early and appropriate intervention from The Elizabeth Foundation deaf children can and do achieve the same positive outcomes, both academically and socially as their hearing peers and go on to lead a happy and fulfilling life. Our Board of Trustees and Patrons include adults once supported directly by the charity, and now acting as wonderful role models for future generations. As our services continue to grow and our beneficairies flourish, we aim to help more deaf children to; • develop their language and speech skills so that they can communicate and learn • Improve their communication skills so that they are easily understood and confident in their ability to speak. • develop strong emotional and social skills so that they can build safe and appropriate relationships • increase their potential and ability to achieve academically • reduce the likelihood of developing mental health problems. And to enable deaf children to find their voice and....love using it!
