Mission Statement
Hackney Quest has been providing positive support to young people and families from Hackney since 1988. In this time we have played a unique and valued role in the community because the trusted approach taken provides positive, long-term projects for young people, families and the community. Hackney Quest aims to give young people, families and members of the community practical and emotional support that they need to develop and pursue their aspirations and deal positively with life’s challenges against a backdrop of social and economic disadvantage. We help them build confidence, develop new skills, and widen their perspectives as well as uncover existing strengths and capacities. We help them find resources and help from each other through forging supportive relationships that realise the potential for positive change that lies within them as individuals, families and as a community.
About This Cause
The charity has five main programmes which are The Positive Youth Engagement Programme (PYEP), The Volunteering Programme (for adult and youth volunteers), Educational Welfare Family Support and the Community Friends. Positive Youth Engagement Programme. Our Positive Youth Engagement Programme is at core of what we do. In 2013-14, 280 different young people from across Hackney benefitted from a wide range of activities and workshops aimed at growing their skills, resilience and knowledge, whilst enabling them to have fun in a supportive environment. Peer led activities, fundraising and participation in accredited programmes has enabled this group of young people to try new things and learn new approaches to the challenges they face. The use of The Frampton Park Youth and Family Centre has enabled Hackney Quest to extend its reach to new young people, and develop estate-based youth services. A key part of all our programmes for young people aims to give them the chance to participate in activities beyond the borough of Hackney, including residential programmes, which are a firm favourite of the young people. Volunteering Volunteering drives almost every area that Hackney Quest works in, and volunteerism is integral to what we do. Hackney Quest has 75 adult and youth volunteers who contributed over £40,000 worth of hours in 2014. Volunteers come from all ages and backgrounds (including beneficiaries, whose volunteering is doubly beneficial) and these differences enrich our organisation and all involved. These volunteers are an essential part of the Hackney Quest team. Every element of our youth work had volunteers substantially involved in its delivery during the year. Hackney Quest is committed to living the values of volunteering and we make inclusion and diversity central to all we do and always strive to do better Family Support The programme was initiated by volunteers in 2010 to offer a listening and signposting service to help the local community cope with a wide range of different needs, including mental health issues, problems with housing, form filling, parenting support, emotional support, immigration issues and post abuse trauma. Over the last few years, it has grown in a way that was led by the need in the community to support more adults and parents in more ways. Many of the people attending have deep personal issues and we were able to offer them the family support service, but also enable them to grow and feel part of the community through activities, support groups and events. Community Friends The Community Friends programme started in November 2013 and responds to a need within the community for our parents and other local vulnerable and isolated adults to build their skills and meet new people through volunteering, supporting others, building skills and gaining qualifications. It has become a vibrant and central part of the community for many adults. Educational Welfare This new programme works with parents and young people to bridge the gap between school and family to keep young people in education. We do this by helping parents to communicate and work with their child's school to overcome challenges and create positive relationships.
