Mission Statement
Tusk has built a reputation for identifying and supporting an impressive range of sustainable community development and conservation initiatives right across Africa. The Charity, whose Royal Patron is Prince William, invests in programmes which use conservation as a tool to alleviate poverty, improve education and reduce conflict, whilst also protecting areas rich in biodiversity. Funding is focused on the protection of endangered species and habitats, construction of schools, implementation of water projects and improving livelihoods through the creation of nature-based enterprise. Tusk is highly efficient in delivering donor funds with the maximum possible impact.
About This Cause
Tusk Trust has been supporting wildlife conservation, communities, and education in Africa since 1990. The charity’s extensive portfolio of projects is designed not only to deliver greater protection for endangered species, but also to help alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development amongst the rural communities who live alongside wildlife. HRH The Duke of Cambridge has been Royal Patron of Tusk Trust since 2005. As the human population increases, the demand for land often leads to conflict with wildlife. Tusk’s holistic approach recognises that the future of the continent’s natural heritage is dependant on improving education and promoting sustainable development. Therefore, whilst investing substantial funds in the protection of many threatened species, Tusk also helps to fund the construction of rural schools and water projects as well as initiatives that stimulate nature-based enterprise in poor rural areas. Tusk has earned a reputation for its low overheads, operating with only seven members of staff in the UK, and for being highly efficient in delivering donor funds to the field. Tusk is currently committed to halting the illegal trade in rhino horn and ivory, which has seen a dramatic escalation in poaching of rhino and elephant across Africa.
