Mission Statement
To empower individuals and communities by promoting wellness, reducing the risk of addiction, and providing comprehensive, accessible services that encourage lasting health and recovery.
About This Cause
HURT began as the founder Sadie O Reilly sadly lost her son, Tony, to a Heroin overdose at the age of 22. The charity was created in 2002 in order to support those struggling with addiction. HURT has been a leading addiction charity in Derry/ Londonderry for over 23 years. We have helped over five thousand local individuals and families. The reality is so that our numbers have increased by 50% post COVID. Our youngest client is thirteen years old. Awareness and education around addiction and preventative work is a huge part of our new strategy. We have recently rebranded to a Wellness Centre. So, we can reach more people in our community before they get to crisis point. We have had over six hundred clients this year – each client receives up to ten counselling sessions and six complementary therapy sessions, which is a cost at 450k alone before we look at staff or operational costs. We have never received any government or NHS funding. HURT offer a range of programmes and services focusing on different ways to support those struggling as well as their families. One of the programmes is aimed towards children as young as primary seven, this is called ‘The Wizard of Me’ and is a 6-week drug & alcohol programme, designed to focus on raising awareness in an engaging metaphorical manner. Destination Me is a project aimed to support young people between the ages of 16-25. This project focuses on developing mental & emotional health, work readiness and engaging in personal development programmes Reconnected Recovery is a project aimed at ages 25+, this programme focuses on supporting anyone currently seeking support with addiction to illicit drugs, prescription and over the counter medication this programme will include counselling, group work and a range of activities. Supporting HURT through your donations allows us to continue making a meaningful difference in our community. Your generosity enables us to provide free therapies, counselling sessions, and vital programs to those who need them most. As HURT operates without any funding, we depend entirely on your contributions. This is your chance to help support individuals in your community when they need it most. Together, we can create lasting change.
