Mission Statement
The committee of Lislea Community Association run Lislea Community Centre, and provide availability to services to well over 300 families in the immediate area, and many more beyond. A wide variety of scheduled activities and events take place, including Youth Clubs, Irish Dancing classes, Yoga & Relaxation sessions, Fitness Bootcamps, Age-lity Circus workshops, Annual Drama Festival & Drama Camp, Summer Camps & Luncheon Clubs; and our facilities are available to hire for your family gathering’s, party’s and fundraising efforts. We planned, funded and developed a new outdoor space, including a children’s playground, fitness area, storytelling area, outdoor gathering space and a community shed in 2018, and are currently funded by the Community Fund, to run programmes and events for our community, to improve health and wellbeing, and reduce social isolation in our rural community. Our community centre offers a wide range of programmes and services for people of all ages, religions, interests & abilities. For children and youth, we offer youth clubs, drama, summer & mid-term activity camps. For adults, we have fitness classes, yoga workshops, and activity groups. We also host concerts, drama productions and annual festival, cultural events, and community gatherings. Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming environment where everyone feels included and valued. Whether you want to make new friends, improve your health and wellness, or just have fun, there is something for everyone at our community centre. We are open to all members of the community, and we encourage everyone to get involved.
About This Cause
OBJECTIVES The Association is established: To relieve poverty, sickness and the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Lislea area and district area of Newry and Mourne District Council and its environs (hereinafter described as "the area of benefit") without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare, for recreation or other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants; To establish or to secure the establishment of a Community Centre (hereinafter called 'the Centre') at 7 Mountain Road, Lislea, Newry (BT35 9UG) and to maintain it and to manage to cooperate with any local statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a Centre for activities promoted by the Association and its constituent bodies in furtherance of the above objects.
