Mission Statement

For more than 50 years RDA Glasgow Group has been transforming the lives of disabled people. Connecting with horses brings happiness, improves physical and mental health, and creates a sense of aspiration. We believe it’s what you can do that counts, enabling people to achieve their goals.

About This Cause

RDA horses benefit the lives of over one hundred and seventy disabled children and adults by providing therapy, fitness, skill development and opportunities for progression. Fun activities like riding and stable management are supported by twelve qualified coaches and one hundred amazing volunteers. We are uniquely positioned as the only riding centre in the City of Glasgow and the only large RDA centre in the West of Scotland. Our focus is squarely on the therapeutic and health benefits of bringing people and horses together – and we make a difference. We welcome participants with physical and intellectual disabilities, Autism, ADHD, Dementia, and mental health issues, with no age restrictions. RDA Glasgow Group creates therapeutic opportunities in the natural environment to people living in urban areas across Greater Glasgow, East & West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, and Renfrewshire. In 1988, HRH the Princess Royal, President of the Riding for the Disabled Association officially opened our purpose-built centre set in approximately 30 acres in Summerston, Glasgow. Facilities include stabling for 20 horses, indoor and outdoor arenas, and the sensory trail that winds through woodland paths to the duck pond. Our activities are recommended by Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, and most of our participants are referred to RDA Glasgow Group by families who have seen a tangible improvement in their child’s well-being. Many of our participants say that RDA activity is their main way of accessing physical exercise, and has a positive, long-term impact on confidence levels, relationship building, communication skills, enjoyment, and physical ability. What do we help with?  Reach therapeutic goals.  Achieve their personal ambitions.  Combat social isolation.  Develop life skills.  Experience the outdoors.  Connect with animals. The RDA activities offered at Sandyflat Stables are: 1. Hippotherapy 2. School riding sessions 3. Children’s equine therapy sessions 4. Adult equine therapy sessions 5. Stable management sessions 6. Tea with a Pony
