About This Cause

The Children's Wood Charity operates on The Children's Wood and North Kelvinside Meadow in G20 area of Glasgow. The area includes a wild meadow and a wooded area. This area is known to be unequal, Maryhill being one of the most unequal areas of Scotland. Our aim is to reduce these inequalities by providing free outdoor activities such as Forest School and community events for all. We encourage outdoor learning, healthy lifestyles and stronger communities through our work. We deliver gardening and wellbeing sessions to building mental health. We work with 22 local schools and nurseries. In addition to outdoor learning clubs for families, forest schools for schools and toddler groups, we run the G20 Youth Festival, which is a project that works with at risk young people in the G20 area. This was originally run exclusively in The Children’s Wood, but we now also have an indoor base in Maryhill.). A need has been identified to continue to develop a trusting relationship with this group of youngpeople, to ensure they are engaged in more positive outcomes, and to also engage with other at-risk groups in the area. We want to provide better opportunities for the less privileged and vulnerable young people in our community. The young. people in our club came up with the idea. to their community when the COVID outbreak started and this led to the Food From the Wood meals on wheels initiative which aims to feed people in the G20 area. bit.ly/FFTWDay18
