Mission Statement
We are a local club led by local people for local people and our staff, committee and volunteers are all from the local community. Our clubs aim is the advancement of sport, health through physical activities alongside the prevention or relief of generational poverty, unemployment and addiction We believe we can make meaningful and measurable differences in the local community. Not only can our work provide a cost benefit to the local community through reductions in ASB, increased health, early intervention in housing - but also increase life chances to the local youths through sport, education and opportunity, alleviating isolation and stigma for the family.
About This Cause
Bluevale Community Club, formerly known as Bluevale Boxing Club, look to deliver a whole system approach to community work meaning we will deliver services from young person to adult. These activities are mixed between Bluevale Neighbourhood Centre in Haghill and Bluevale's fitness facility in Denniston and all activities are community led. Our organisation operates in one of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland according to the Scottish Indices of Multiple Deprivation, with high concentrations of low income, high unemployment, poor educational attainment, poor health and high levels drugs and alcohol abuse. The clubs fitness facility is used for multi-purpose sports and community work including an over 35's and children's football club, adult and children's boxing clubs, drama club, youth and kids club and our Still gem classes aimed at elderly within the community. This combined with our community programmes for the whole community age 5 to adult. We have also now delivered over 700 food parcels to those in need in our communities and we also run children's activities and programmes, especially during school holidays. All of our additional children's activities are aimed towards children and young people aged 5 to 18 and during the school holidays our facility has been at full capacity. We also provide a youth and kids club for young people age 5 to 16. We also provide paid positions to 5 local young people while they carry out a vocational qualification, many of our young people come from broken or disadvantaged homes. These roles are created to bring opportunity and hope to the young people we serve, with one of the current roles being filled by a young person whose parents are in active addiction and who came to us habitually using alcohol and drugs. We have also now begun our Bluevale Recovery Cafe in Bluevale Community Hall every Monday. This has been well attended with around 25 attendees all either in recovery, seeking recovery or who just want to attend for some food and fellowship. We have recently run a consultation on this group, to ensure that the offer is fully co-produced, and have added additional services built by the community. It is our hope to increase the frequency of this recovery drop in dependent on future funding and have recently provided further activities for those in recovery locally. Our community facility working in conjunction with our sports facility we will look to improve mental/physical health as well as social cohesion of all attending.
