Mission Statement
AfricaNdoto aims to increase the possibilities of those underprivileged children who cannot access a quality education, and thus achieve, finish their studies promoting a more egalitarian society within the territory. The aim is to provide a safe and pleasant environment by promoting actions oriented towards learning, the construction of new spaces and health. Thanks to the work of our volunteers and the effort and dedication of all those who are part of this dream, AfricaNdoto will achieve its goal: to build its own school.
About This Cause
In 2016, a group of friends realized that we had the same purpose, to join our energies to make the dream of many come true. Our goal was created from the need to improve the quality life of the population of Usa River, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Arusha (Tanzania). From our NGO, we'd like to be transparent and to be able to show what we do and how we do it. For this reason we want you to understand exactly under what mission, vision and objectives we have registered the NGO (in Tanzania under the number 00NGO/R/0118 in the register of national NGOs in the country. In Spain as a non-profit association G67697748). Mission: Explained above. Vision: We aim to provide a safe and pleasant environment for the most vulnerable children, promoting actions oriented to learning, leisure and health to move towards a community where all children have the same opportunities in terms of their education. At the same time we are a team that believes in working together, passionate about our project, open to new learnings that make us value and improve our daily work. The commitment towards this work, and you, our collaborators, are what help Africandoto reach its goals. Objectives: - To look for people who want to sponsor students with financial difficulties to access education in English. - To share knowledge between trainee teachers from European universities and teachers from Tanzanian schools. - Improve the quality of life of the children by focusing on education, school environment and healthy habits. - Participate in the improvement of facilities in the centers where we collaborate by carrying out occasional funding campaigns and construction projects appropriate to each need. - To gather the necessary means to build an English-speaking school, where in addition to following the guidelines established by the Tanzanian government, we can introduce new teaching methods. The word AfricaNdoto comes from the Swahili language, a language spoken in Tanzania. Where Ndoto means "dream"; so the name of the NGO actually expresses: "The African Dream". This name came from a brainstorming where what we most reflected, were the values that came to us when we created this project. The African dream, in many cases, is to be able to have a decent education in English, which will open the doors to their future in a simpler and faster way. Having the opportunity to attend primary school in English will give them the opportunity to study secondary school (taught in English in the vast majority of cases), and finally be able to access higher education. Tanzania is a country where manpower is plentiful and cheap. Being educated or able to hold a conversation in English facilitates to have an advantageous employment sector. This is how AfricaNdoto started working with Ngarasero Day Care and Majengo Day Care. These are two organizations are in charge of taking in out-of-school children. From that moment on, the children will start attending the day centre, where they are provided with free basic education. In Europe this kind of education is known as pre-school education, or kindergarten, before reaching primary school level. We also work with Amani School, a school that has qualified teachers to teach from "Baby Class" (kindergarten education) to the last year of primary education "Grade Seven" (Seventh and last year of primary education) where the children are 12 or 13 years old. AfricaNdoto looks for sponsors, or perhaps they allow themselves to be found, so that these children who attend the day center can continue their studies in one of the schools with which we collaborate. When this happens, the day center has a new place for another child who is not in school. And so begins a wheel in which we hope that little by little many more opportunities will be born. Our great goal is to be able to create our own school, following the curriculum established by the government, and also under a new concept of education, accompanying the processes of children, respecting their rhythms and enhancing their skills. But it is well known that creating a school requires a high level of funding, so Mama Ndoto School is our long-term project. For the time being, AfricaNdoto has started a new project to accompany the children sponsored at AfricaNdoto and the children of the Makumira neighborhood in Usa River: Mama Ndoto Center. The purpose is to provide a safe space where we can provide guidance the student, in addition to accompanying their families in the journey of upbringing. In this support center, we will have the support of, for the time being, two teachers from the elementary school so that they can carry out the review subjects. In addition to our local AfricaNdoto team and the assistance of our volunteers, professionals in different sectors to organize leisure activities.
