Mission Statement
United Way of Southern Maine's mission is to improve people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.
About This Cause
From Kittery to Freeport, from Sanford to Bridgton, Southern Maine is a great place to live and work for many. Still, we don’t need to look far to see many are not doing well. Food insecurity. Access to health care. Child care shortages. Lack of affordable housing. Community problems are all around us. But this reality does not have to be our future. We have an opportunity to connect our community members to the resources and local relationships needed to address challenges head-on and meet our community needs. Join us! We invite you to take part in your local United Way Community Campaign. United Way of Southern Maine brings together the people, ideas, and resources to respond to emerging needs and tackle the persistent issues preventing individuals and families from achieving economic stability and leading healthy lives. See the impact your support made possible last year in United Way’s Community Report on our website. Direct Your Local Dollars (Add a note in the comments): o Community Impact Fund: Direct your dollars where it will make the most impact today. o Brick & Beam Society: Direct your dollars to support literacy and STEAM education programs for under-served children. o Children’s Education Fund: Direct your dollars to support programs and collaboratives, like Biddeford Ready!, that give children a strong foundation, close equity gaps in learning, and set kids on a course to reach their potential. o Economic Stability Fund: Direct your dollars to support programs and collaboratives, like CA$H and Greater Portland Workforce Initiative, that help people build wealth through education, job training, stable housing, and financial education. o Healthy Community Fund: Direct your dollars to support proven strategies focused on mental health services, suicide prevention, and recovery from substance use. o Women United: Direct your dollars to support the advancement of under-served single mothers and children.
