Mission Statement
We are committed to ending homelessness and assisting people to reach their fullest potential by providing access to various levels of housing, personal growth, opportunities and community resources. We embrace diversity and economic security for all.
About This Cause
The primary goal of YCSP is to prevent homelessness. Whether York County Shelter Programs is working with a resident who is currently in the Emergency Shelter to address what caused that individual initially to become homeless, or, distributing a food box to a family so they do not have to choose between feeding their family and paying rent this month. Below outlines a breakdown of some of the services offered by York County Shelter Programs. Emergency Shelter: When we are working with a resident or family from our Emergency Shelters, our goal is to move that person or family out of the emergency shelter and into transitional or permanent housing with wrap-around services when needed through our Community Outreach programs. We provide support, resources and a framework for residents to become the catalyst to their own success. Layman’s Way Recovery Center: L.W.R.C. is a collaborative effort between York County Shelter Programs, York County Government, and the York County District Attorney's office. L.W.R.C. is a 24·bed residential substance abuse treatment facility located In Alfred Maine. This program serves people who have interfaced with law enforcement and are in need of treatment for substance abuse disorder. It is a 180-day program. Mental Health Services: We have a licensed psychiatrist who offers counseling, mental health treatment, medication management, psychiatry appointments and crisis response services to our clients within our residential treatment programs as well as those who move into housing in the community. Graduates of the Layman Way Recovery Program continue working with the psychiatrist through support groups with their peers. Food Pantry: We have a fully functional food pantry open to the community. The food pantry is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm and is available to anyone In need of food regardless of the town they reside. The Food Pantry makes accommodations for emergency situations and food boxes can be obtained outside of operating hours. Normally we employ the shopping choice model which enables customers to select the food they know their family will consume - reducing waste Sanford Meals Kitchen: The meals kitchen is currently operating in "mobile" form (distributing packaged meals from our food services van), but we hope to be back Indoors once It is safe to do so. Our meals kitchen operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00pm-1:00 pm and is open to anyone in need of a meal. Housing: YCSP owns 30 permanent housing properties totaling 118 units. These units house 270 people total on a daily basis. (In total YCSP provides housing, shelter, and treatment to nearly 350 people on any given night).
