Mission Statement
Located in Lewiston, Maine, the Trinity Jubilee Center is a non-religious organization dedicated to helping those in need in our community. Since our beginning in 1991, the Center has assisted thousands of families by providing hot meals, groceries, diapers, case management, help with resume-writing and job applications, and a hand up to people getting back on their feet. Everyone is welcome.
About This Cause
The Trinity Jubilee Center is a community center in downtown Lewiston, Maine. The Center is a place of strength, nourishment, and hope for thousands of people. Five programs are offered six days a week to help those in need survive the day and begin to build a self-sufficient future. The Soup Kitchen serves a hot lunch six days a week. An average of 130 meals are served each day and in 2019 more than 37,000 meals were served. The majority of the people who utilize the soup kitchen are homeless, elderly, disabled, or mentally ill. Daily meals are cooked from scratch and include garden salad, fruit salad, vegetables, side dishes, meat dishes, coffee, juice, and dessert. The Food Pantry provides groceries and diapers to nearly 200 households, or more than 700 people, each week. The majority of the 2,000+ pounds of food distributed weekly is fresh fruits and vegetables, which inner-city patrons struggle to access and afford. More than 30% of patrons report that the majority of their fresh produce comes from the Center’s weekly distributions. Unlike the Meals Program, where many are homeless or disabled, most Food Pantry patrons are working families who cannot make ends meet. More than half of the 3,000 people enrolled are children. The Food Pantry also distributes 4,000 diapers each month. The Day Shelter serves homeless guests who are sleeping in an overnight shelter that closes in the morning or who are sleeping outdoors at night. The Shelter is open year-round to provide warmth, safety, and a place out of the elements to homeless men, women, and children. There are pastries for breakfast and couches for resting and people can use the bathroom, charge their phone, and fill water bottles. The Resource Center includes a multitude of support services to help people improve their lives. The Center's Free Clinic provides free medical attention from a team of doctors, nurses, pre-med students, and nursing students each week as well as immunizations and health screenings from partner agencies. Guests have access to the Center's phone, fax machine, and internet. Many homeless guests receive their mail at the Center. Personal hygiene items and winter gear are distributed. Staff help guests connect with mental health supports, search for housing, and address other barriers. The Holiday Wishlist Project provides gifts for more than 20 children each year. Community education sessions are held at the Center including topics like tenant's rights and responsibilities. The Refugee Integration Program is similar to the Resource Center: staff provide one-on-one assistance overcoming challenges. Most requests are for help with resume-writing and job applications, as well as paperwork related to housing, immigration, childcare, and education. The Program serves immigrants from more than a dozen countries. The Tinity Jubilee Center serves more than 1,000 people every week.
