About This Cause

Funds raised from your donation will help the Lions Club of Onley continue its “Mission” to support many local, national and worldwide organizations. Activities and organizations included but not limited to the Lions Vision Research Foundation, Inc. which supports the Lions Vision and Research and Rehabilitation Center at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Lions Camp Merrick for children with special needs, Connors Kits – for newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic children, Childhood Cancer, Pre-School Vision Screening, and eye glasses and hearing aids for people in need. House of Hope for struggling teenagers and their families, Olney Boys and Girls Club, “Toys for Kids”, Olney Help, Manna Food Center, Medstar Montgomery Medical Center, Winter Growth, local food bank support, seeing eye dog support/programs for the blind, local service and college scholarships, Red Cross blood drives, and other community-based organizations who request our assistance. We continue to partner with Mr. Rich Leotta, the father of Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta, supporting his son’s legacy of saving lives with the “Act Responsibly Scholarship” fund. The OLC has responsibility for maintaining part of Georgia Avenue in the Adopt-A-Highway program and participates in the Rebuilding Together program. Every other month, members pack food boxes for distribution by MANNA. We also provide eye and ear testing at several local schools and events in Olney, MD. We continually try to be aware of the needs of our community and address those needs. The club collects old eye glasses for redistribution. The club will also provide an eye checkup and glasses to needy students in the Olney area. We collect and distribute "Toys for Local Kids" to local children in need filling hundreds of requests from local schools, local support facilities and more. The club also provides medical equipment free of charge, such as wheel chairs, walkers, etc. for people who request them. As a member of Lions Clubs International (LCI), the club assists people stricken by disasters both in the US and world wide and support such efforts as providing seeing eye and service dogs to thousands of people each year. The LCI was founded in 1917 and is best known for helping the blind and those with visual problems, but has since significantly broadened its scope to include activities that the local clubs deem appropriate.
