About This Cause
Future In Sight, located in Concord, New Hampshire and founded in 1912 as the New Hampshire Association for the Blind, is the only private nonprofit organization in New Hampshire to supply a comprehensive range of statewide services to children, adults and elderly who are living with vision loss and blindness. While many things have changed in the last 110 years, our mission has remained the same: to advance the independence of persons who are blind and visually impaired. Through our holistic continuum of care, we provide individuals with vital services that allow them to live with confidence and dignity. Our Youth Services Program works within the schools across the state offering direct and consultation services, as well as functional vision assessment and orientation & mobility assessment to students who have, or are suspected of having, a vision impairment and/or blindness. Our Adult Services Program offers services including low vision therapy, occupational therapy, orientation & mobility training, counseling, rehabilitation therapy, enrichment and peer activities, adjustment-to-blindness counseling, and assistive technology training. Our new Real-World Skill-Building Series is working to resolve the service gap that exists for individuals ages 14-22 who are termed “transition age”. These workshops are focused on building upon the skills, tools, and services that each client has been utilizing in our Youth Services Program with an emphasis on setting the client up for future success, whether it be higher education, employment or living with assistive independence. All of the programs and services at Future In Sight are tailored to meet the unique goals of the client. In addition to our programs, our dedicated group of volunteers provide support and companionship, from transportation to essential appointments and errands to making friendly calls and planned visits. We also offer a year-round calendar of group meetings, technology trainings, fitness classes and social activities, which are open to individuals of all ages who are blind and visually impaired no matter where they live.
