About This Cause
Greater Seacoast Community Health is a community health center and family resource center serving people who live primarily in communities in eastern Rockingham County and Strafford County, NH, and in southern ME. Greater Seacoast Community Health is the overarching legal name for the organization created by the 2018 merger of Families First Health & Support Center and Goodwin Community Health. The merged entity is one of New Hampshire’s largest community health centers, providing care for 20,000 adults and children, many of them uninsured or underinsured. Families First Health & Support Center was founded as the Portsmouth Prenatal Clinic in 1984, and Goodwin Community Health began as a department of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in 1969. We have been providing primary care services since 1997-1998, dental care since 2003-2004, and behavioral health services since 2008. We have three locations in New Hampshire: Portsmouth, Somersworth, and Rochester. Our core services are: primary care, prenatal care, behavioral health care (including substance misuse counseling), medication-assisted recovery for substance misuse, intensive outpatient treatment for substance misuse, dental care, parenting and family programs, medication assistance, benefits enrollment assistance, and care coordination. In addition, from our Portsmouth location, we provide home visiting for families facing challenges, and mobile health and dental clinics. At our Somersworth location, we have an in-house pharmacy; provide Women, Infants and Children nutrition services and Commodity Supplemental Food programs; and partner with SOS Recovery Community Centers in Dover and Rochester. Our Rochester location also provides pediatric services to approximately 1,500 children through our merger with Lilac City Pediatrics.
