Mission Statement

Southern New Hampshire Health launched the Legacy Trust in 2020 as its first philanthropic arm to help individuals and families in greater Nashua. We deeply appreciate those who support our effort to serve the needs of our patients and surrounding community. We believe that people must be able to access exceptional healthcare regardless of where they live or their socioeconomic status. We need your help to reach our goal of improving the overall health and wellness of the community both within and beyond our hospital campus. Through collaboration with Southern New Hampshire Health leadership and our local partners, the Legacy Trust will identify mission-aligned and data-indicated opportunities to secure and deploy resources. Our objectives are grounded in the following values: TRUST— Our patient-focused decisions are made with respect, accountability, compassion and commitment in mind. STEWARDSHIP—All philanthropic gifts are used as the donor wishes and focus on areas where there is a pressing need for help. COLLABORATION—Philanthropic initiatives include our community stakeholders as advocates and partners. INTEGRITY—We are committed to continuous learning and welcome feedback from donors, community partners and patients. The Legacy Trust’s leaders work closely with the SNHH Board of Trustees to allocate resources where they are most needed and most effective.

About This Cause

Southern NH Health is a non-profit with 128 years of dedication to creating and maintaining innovative programs and preventative health resources to improve the health and well-being of people in greater Nashua, New Hampshire. Nashua is the second largest city in NH with an estimated 87,110 people. Approximately 15% of residents identify as racial/ethnic minorities with 11% Hispanic/Latino and more than 10% speak a language other than English at home. Despite a robust economy and a median income of $66,818, 42.2% of students across Nashua’s 17 schools are eligible for free and reduced lunch, with five of 12 elementary schools having more than 70% eligible. Further, in 2018, 1584 families participated in food subsidies and 2607 received electric assistance. In addition, 11.2% of residents lack a high school diploma and 10.7% live below poverty level. More than 36% of families experience a housing cost burden, spending more than 30% of their income on housing, leaving less for basic needs and healthcare. As the city hospital for the region, more than 100,000 people seek our help each year, 45,000 due to an emergency illness or injury. SNHH includes Southern NH Medical Center, a 188-bed acute care facility located in the heart of downtown Nashua. We also serve thousands of patients in more than 70 practices across the region through our multi-specialty provider group and our seven Immediate Care centers offering walk-in care seven days a week as an alternative to the Emergency Department. About 14% of our patient population across the health system are either Medicaid or Self-Pay patients. We are proud to lead the greater Nashua Integrated Delivery Network, part of a NH initiative that is a national model for community collaboration to improve access to coordinated care for substance use disorder and mental health. Further, we work closely with multiple community partners to provide long-term education and support to those who need it most. We embrace the connection between physical, mental and emotional health and demonstrate our unwavering commitment on a daily basis serving on the front lines of the current opioid crisis. We are often the only option for patients in crisis. Our Emergency Department staff struggle daily to save the lives of overdose victims, and too often, witness the tragedy and heartbreak of children, spouses, parents and friends who lose their loved ones to the struggle. Often, ED staff care for patients who must wait for placement in treatment settings more appropriate for their needs. The Medical Center has the only inpatient psychiatric facility in the region and our skilled behavioral health staff provide the highest quality care through our acute community crisis evaluation service (ACCESS) team, inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient program and individual counseling. Not only do we give the gift of health, we also give hope. We appreciate your consideration.
