Mission Statement
Our mission is informed by Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy, Waldorf Education, and the Pikler Institute to: • Provide daily care and education for children. • Offer whole hearted support for families. • Provide education and mentoring for early childhood teachers.
About This Cause
Sophia’s Hearth Family Center has served families with children from birth to six years in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire since 1999. We began by offering programs for children and parents together, a two-generation program. In 2010 we were first able to provide a full time year-round early education program that has grown to 32 children of working parents from three months to six years in a nature-based, language rich program. Our early education program offers a lifeline for parents who are seeking daily, year round high quality care for their children so that they feel that their children are safe and well cared for during their working hours. From our founding, we have incorporated a teacher education center for early childhood educators within Sophia’s Hearth. Our program for teachers offers a birth to three specialization certificate as well as a Birth to Seven teaching certificate recognized by teh Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America. Our programs for families include workshops for parents to share strategies in eating, sleep and other behaviors. A weekly class for children and caregivers offers a community of support for young families. Seasonally, we offer the community at large, age appropriate puppet and marionette stories. The stories incorporate song and language for the developing child.
