Mission Statement
Arrupe Jesuit High School is a Catholic, college preparatory school offering students with limited economic resources a premier educational experience through rigorous academics, formation in faith and discernment, and a unique work study program – fostering community, opportunity, leadership, and personal growth.
About This Cause
Arrupe Jesuit High School creates access to Catholic education for students from historically oppressed communities to graduate high school, continue their education, and return as leaders in their chosen community. By enhancing the human, intellectual, and spiritual capacities of students through a rigorous and affordable education, AJHS provides hope to Denver’s most underserved youth who possess boundless potential for success. Opening in 2003, AJHS prepares students for achievement through three programs - Academics, Faith Formation, and the Corporate Work Study Program. Recognized for empowering students to break the cycle of poverty, over 70% of alumni were the first in their families to graduate from high school, and 90% are the first to pursue a college degree. Today, 426 young men and women made up the 2021-2022 student body and with 1,073 alumni, graduates are persisting through college at a rate of almost 70% (as compared to a number in the teens for their demographic peers). Arrupe Jesuit High School is uncompromising on its founding vision of creating access and opportunity for students living in poverty who are otherwise underserved and often overlooked. Best articulated by our graduates, the words of alumnus, Jose Madrid, captures the impact of those who invest in our students, “Arrupe stands for a radical sense of love...one that does not hold your hand or coddle you and tell you blindly that everything is going to be okay. No, this love is the type that holds you accountable to responsibilities, professionalism, deadlines; it’s the radical love that makes you see the world outside your perspective and holds you accountable not just to yourself, but to your community. This radical approach helped me turn what seemed like an impossible collection of dreams into realities. This is what happens when you give a kid like me an opportunity to find a deeper sense of purpose, to be courageous, and to become my best self.” -Jose Madrid, AJHS Class of 2010, Georgetown University Class of 2014, Georgetown Law Class of 2019
