Radio Boise

Boise, Idaho, 83702 United States

Mission Statement

Radio Boise filled a gaping hole in the Intermountain West when it went on the air in April 2011, providing noncommercial radio broadcast service to 500,000 people reaching 10 counties in Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

About This Cause

Radio Boise connects otherwise disparate elements of the Southwest Idaho community through a medium that is accessible across the socioeconomic spectrum. A radio can be found inexpensively at almost any thrift store, plugged into an electrical outlet, and broadcasts enjoyed at home without a subscription. Although access to independent media is a cornerstone of a free society, the true potential of radio to address systemic and shared challenges depends heavily on the quality of the stories that can be heard up and down the dial. Without noncommercial options, media consolidation and commercial values threaten the existence of radio as a relevant forum for individual expression. Music represents 90% of Radio Boise’s programming, and serves as the station’s primary connection with our community. Programming is produced locally by local, volunteer deejays — with a broad representation of genres throughout the week. Radio Boise provides an eclecticism which is reflected in the broad range of ages, interests, professions, and histories found within the station’s listeners and volunteers.
