About This Cause

Founded in 2003, the Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) is a 501 (c) 3 organization that acts proactively with other concerned lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organizations to ensure that transgender veterans and actively serving military members receive assistance with discrimination cases, appropriate care for their medical conditions, assistance with identity documents, personnel records, and other documentation affecting the well-being of veterans within the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD). In addition, TAVA provides ancillary benefits that provides location services for support groups, social media presence for individual support within our community, and an online presence, which serves as a hub for information for transgender veterans and actively serving military members. Further, TAVA assists in educating the VA, DoD, colleges and universities, and business on issues regarding fair and equal treatment of transgender and transsexual individuals. Lastly, TAVA assists the general transgender community when deemed appropriate.
