Mission Statement

COTS provides emergency shelter, services, and housing for people who are homeless or marginally housed in Vermont.

About This Cause

COTS is the largest service provider for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in Vermont. COTS began in 1982 when a group of concerned community members and organizations joined together to create ways to address the needs of the growing homeless population in Burlington. Today, we operate 9 program sites in 10 locations in Burlington, including the only three family shelters in Chittenden County, one overnight shelter for single adults, a daytime drop-in center, and four facilities providing permanent and transitional housing for people moving out of shelter, the disabled, and the elderly. The COTS Housing Resource Center is dedicated to helping households in financial crisis avert homelessness.
