Mission Statement

The East Boston Social Centers (EBSC) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit multi-service agency that has served the children, families, senior citizens and community of East Boston since its founding in 1918. The East Boston Social Centers’ programs are designed to meet people’s educational, social and recreational needs and to build community and strengthen families. The East Boston Social Centers seeks to create a welcoming and supportive environment, characterized by a spirit of goodwill and caring, in which members of our community are empowered to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

About This Cause

The East Boston Social Centers programs reach more than 3,000 children, families and senior citizens each year. Our programs serve predominately low-income children and families. Program participants are culturally diverse and include a significant immigrated Latino population, which reflects the cultural diversity of East Boston. The East Boston Social Centers is the community’s largest provider of quality, center-based child care and support services. Our four Early Learning Centers provide childcare year-round to 145 children. These centers offer high quality childcare and are licensed by the Dept. of Early Education and Care (EEC) and accredited by the National Association of Educators of Young Children (NAEYC). The Centers provide transportation and nutritional meals for all of the children in our programs and work to develop the children’s social, emotional, cognitive and self-help skills. The School Age Childcare program provides affordable after-school care to approximately 150 children, ages 5 to 14 during the school year, including full time during school vacations. The School Age Child Care Program is also licensed through EEC and uses programming based upon NAA (National Afterschool Association) Standards for Quality School Age Care. During summer months the School Age Child Care program provides Summer Program all day, serving approximately 300 children ages 5-14. The Summer Program provides a safe, educational environment for children, including educationally based field trips to a variety of museums and historical landmarks, literacy programs, environmental awareness activities, and a health and wellness curriculum. Boston Youth Network (BYN), which has been operating since 1989, is a no-cost, after-school program that focuses on developing the strengths of at-risk youth, ages 13 to 18 that live or go to school in East Boston. The program includes academic assistance, prevention education, workforce skills, arts and multi-cultural activities, and a peer leadership program. The East Boston Family Engagement Network (EBFEN) is a longstanding group of agencies, led by the East Boston Social Centers, who continue to work together to bring programs, services and leadership opportunities for families. EBFEN works to serve and deliver services to the neediest of families in East Boston. The East Boston Social Centers’ Senior Programs include a Kit Clark Senior Nutritional site, which serves hot lunch to the elderly, and Senior Place, a social-recreational program for seniors. Senior Place serves more than 150 men and women over the age of 60, and offers a wide array of social activities, informational speakers, recreational classes and trips that provide seniors with a support network of peers and help them to stay healthy and active.
