Mission Statement

To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

About This Cause

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill has changed the lives of countless youth within our surrounding communities for the past 120+ years. Our dedicated history provides testament to our ability to provide a safe, wholesome environment that allows our members to strive towards excellence. We are part of a nationwide affiliation of local, autonomous organizations and Boys & Girls Clubs of America working to help youth of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Club provides a variety of programming for our members in five core areas: Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, the Arts and Fitness and Recreation. Each member is encouraged to participate in Power Hour/Homework Help when they arrive at the Club. Tutors are available from area college preparatory high schools to assist members with their assignments. Members learn computer literacy and Internet safety skills in our technology center. Teen members who are interested in leadership development and service can join the Keystone Club. Classes in fine arts and photography, music and dance are available to all age groups. And an extensive choice of sports and recreational activities are available to our members daily in our gym or in the fitness area. We believe members come to our Club daily because we provide something no other youth development organization in our area provides – adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel their energy into challenging pursuits. We serve more than 1,000 youth ages 6-18 years each school year. The majority of our members are from the city of Haverhill; many residing in public housing projects or newly constructed low-income housing units that are within walking distance to the Club. Forty-five percent are Hispanic, thirty-seven percent Caucasian, nine percent African-American, two percent Asian and seven percent other. Forty percent of members come from single-family homes. Seventy five percent are from low-income households.
