Mission Statement
Northeast Arc (NeArc) changes lives for people with disabilities - and children at risk of developing them - and their families. We serve more than 10,000 people in 190 Massachusetts cities and towns each year. We are the largest Arc in Massachusetts and the 2nd largest (of 700) in the country.
About This Cause
Introduction to Northeast Arc Northeast Arc was founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities who wanted to raise their sons and daughters as full members of the community. By having the courage to challenge professionals who told them their children could not be educated and would not live to become adults, these parents created the systems that enabled them to attend public schools, develop friendships, reside in the neighborhoods of their choice and to earn a paycheck. Over the years, our programs have expanded to support children and adults with a broader range of disabilities, including autism and physical disabilities. Today we serve over 10,000 people from more than 190 cities and towns on an operating budget of $70 million. We are the largest Arc in Massachusetts and the 2nd largest Arc out of 700 across the country. We are also one of the largest employers on the North Shore, with over 1,000 people on our payroll. The goal of Northeast Arc is to ensure that children and adults with disabilities are able to live, work, engage in civic life and play in the community. Services include early intervention, a day care and preschool, advocacy, school to work transition services, Breaking Grounds Café, employment training & job placement, day habilitation, autism support, recreational programs, ArcWorks Community Art Center, family support, personal care assistance, adult family care, independent living supports, shared living and residential homes for our neighbors with disabilities. At Northeast Arc we help people live their best possible lives from birth to end-of-life.
