Mission Statement
The Arc of the South Shore’s mission is to empower families and individuals of all ages with disabilities to reach their fullest potential. We achieve this by providing high-quality, individualized services and opportunities that foster independence, community inclusion, and advocacy.
About This Cause
Since 1951, The Arc of the South Shore has helped more than 100,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, live their best lives and achieve high-quality outcomes. The Arc is a family oriented, community-based non-profit and offers information, supports, and a range of programs across Southeastern Massachusetts. Its primary service area includes the cities and towns of Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate, and Weymouth; however, The Arc also has a presence throughout Greater Southeastern Massachusetts. One in five people in the United States, approximately 61 million individuals, live with a disability, making them the largest minority group in the country, and it is vital that they have access to comprehensive care throughout their lives. People with disabilities experience difficulties with major life activities such as communication, behavior, learning, mobility, self-help, and independent living. They require a range of services; some need one-on-one assistance with activities of daily living while others have greater functional and social skills and are able to live relatively independently with supportive services in place. In response, The Arc supports and empowers people with disabilities throughout their lifespan. The agency provides early intervention for infants and toddlers with developmental delays, specialized services for children and young adults with autism, and supportive care for adults and seniors, including day services, supported employment, personal care management, foster care, and residential housing. These individualized services improve the health, safety, and independence of the most vulnerable children, adults, and seniors in the region.
