Mission Statement
The mission of Kennedy-Donovan Center is to empower and support people to realize their full potential. Children, individuals and families throughout Central and Southeastern Massachusetts have depended on KDC's lifechanging support for over 50 years. Through a wide range of family and community-based services, we help those who face developmental delays, disabilities and other challenges.
About This Cause
Rose Kennedy had a vision that her daughter with intellectual disabilities could someday live a typical family life and attend a local school. With that vision in mind, Luella Hennessey Donovan, the Kennedy family nurse, embarked on a new career providing community-based programs for young children with special needs. Thanks to the support of the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation, Kennedy-Donovan Center (KDC) was founded in 1969 with Luella and a handful of students in a rented space. Today, Kennedy-Donovan Center (KDC) offers an array of essential services providing resources, education, and support to more than 7,500 individuals annually and serving over 50% of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. KDC programs include Early Intervention, Applied Behavior Analysis, Day Habilitation, Family Support Centers, Foster Care, Healthy Families, Individual Support, Transitional Job Supports, and Transportation. No matter the circumstances, our team of dependable partners and trusted advocates joins each person’s journey toward meeting goals and achieving their full potential.
