About This Cause

Boston Baroque is the first permanent period instrument orchestra established in North America and is widely regarded as being among the world’s leading period instrument ensembles. Founded in 1973 by Music Director Martin Pearlman, the orchestra is comprised of some of the finest period instrument players in the United States. These players are joined by the ensemble’s professional chorus and by world-renowned guest soloists. In a typical year, the ensemble presents an exciting annual subscription season consisting of five programs (a total of ten concerts) performed at Boston’s Jordan Hall and GBH's Calderwood Studio, a state-of-the-art studio that is ideal for livestreaming. Boston Baroque’s annual New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day concerts at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge are a much beloved part of each season as well. Boston Baroque for Kids, an animated program which serves as an introduction to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons for young audiences, is available to all audiences for free via our website. Boston Baroque is a proud participant in the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program, through which Massachusetts residents who rely on support from the Department of Transitional Assistance can use their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to attend Boston Baroque performances at just $5 per ticket. Boston Baroque tours both nationally and internationally and reaches an audience of millions around the globe through 26 critically acclaimed recordings, including five Grammy®-nominated albums. In the 2020-2021 season the orchestra embarked on a partnership with IDAGIO; through this classical music streaming platform Boston Baroque performances now reach audiences in 55 countries on six continents.
