Mission Statement

EVkids empowers underserved Boston youth with the skills and confidence needed to realize their potential.

About This Cause

EVkids is successfully nurturing Boston students grades three through college to become confident leaders by providing access to sustained 1-on-1 skills-based mentoring within a connected community. Students are matched with top university volunteers (e.g. Boston College, Harvard, MCPHS, Northeastern, Tufts, & UMassBoston) at five afterschool sites in Dorchester and Roxbury, including a virtual site, and benefit from professional family engagement, school advocacy, and college success mentoring. A life-changing rural summer camp experience at the EVkids nine-acre Camp in the Green Mountains of Vermont and leadership opportunities on the EVkids Youth Council are further opportunities for youth development. While nearly 1 in 5 first-time 9th graders in Boston do not obtain an on-time high school diploma - a key predictor of social and economic success (Brookings Institute, Oct. 2023), 100% of EVkids seniors graduate and enroll in college or an alternative post-secondary program. Additionally, 100% of EVkids graduates in college persist in college - compared to enrolled students from low-income high schools nationally, of whom only 30% complete their college degrees within 6 years (National Student Clearing House Research Center, Oct 2022).
