About This Cause

The Children's Museum Easton is a vibrant, engaging educational and cultural community asset. Focused on promoting early learning in children, ages 1- 7, the Museum has been visited by over 866,000 children and families in its 30-year history. Our mission is to inspire children and families to become lifelong learners - and to extend that opportunity to all, regardless of means. We work with over 110 schools, social service agencies, and community organizations offering more than 130 programs, classes, and special events involving thousands of children and families each year. Throughout our programs and activities, we maintain a continuous focus on the inclusion of needy and underserved populations who otherwise would not be able to afford such opportunities. The Museum occupies the former North Easton Fire Station located on Sullivan Avenue in North Easton, Massachusetts – the building housed the town’s original fire station which opened in 1903. The building is a registered historic landmark and is part of a vital cultural center in the village of North Easton. It is the only children’s Museum between Boston and Providence and fills an important need for families with young children. Our mission is to provide informal, hands-on opportunities that promote learning in children, ages one through eight years. The Museum has experienced continuous growth and sustained visitor activity, annually reaching between 48,000 and 57,000 visitors and program participants and is open to all regardless of individual ability, economic status, race, ethnicity, cultural heritage or family structure. We know that this level of community participation is a true measure of the sustained need for hands-on, interactive learning experiences. And we strive to deliver that in an engaging, lively community space where families interact in meaningful, non-commercial ways in a welcoming, safe environment. Our 113-year-old historic fire station offers children and their caregivers three floors of interactive exhibits and an outdoor learning center. It’s a dynamic and engaging space where families can create and learn together at their own pace. Play is a critical component of learning as children use their ability to imagine, explore and comprehend the world around them. Whether role-playing in Our Town, digging in the earth and exploring nature in our outdoor classroom, The Wild Place, imagining and creating anew in the MakerSpace, or hoisting lobsters and seahorses aboard the Boat; children acquire knowledge and expand their horizons at every turn as they visit The Children’s Museum in Easton. They imagine, discover and explore, and they create positive memories with their families, grandparents and/or caretakers that will remain with them for their lifetime. In addition to exhibits and learning spaces, the Museum offers more than 130 affordable, high quality educational programs, classes, and special events each year. Activities include: drop-in programs for preschoolers and early learners; STEM-based outreach programs for schools and community organizations, field trips, and large-scale special events for the entire family. All programs and exhibits are designed to meet the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. The Children’s Museum in Easton provides a fun, safe, environment for families and is chock full of opportunities for both directed and informal learning. As a multi-disciplinary institution, the Museum can light the spark of exploration, discovery and life-long learning in every child. Art, science, math, music, and literacy are offered in structured programs and through open-ended, informal play. Children – and their caregivers - are excited about learning while playing. These experiences help them stay engaged, remain attentive, learn new skills and develop a love of learning that will continue throughout their lives. Located in the heart of southeastern MA, the Museum serves Bristol, Plymouth and Norfolk counties - all growth communities according to the U.S. Census. The Museum is located 40 minutes from both Boston and Providence and conveniently located near routes 138, 24, 128 and 495. Our target audience is families living within a 40-50 mile radius of Easton, MA. Our geographic service area population is 741,957; 14 percent (roughly 100,000 children) are under the age 9. The Museum’s Hand-in-Hand program, which provides access to our activities, programs, and services to those most in need, served over 10,000 children and their families last year. Our Play for All!’ evenings for families with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder had more than 50 visitors per event and we hope to grow that figure in 2016.
