About This Cause
Centerboard was founded in 1988 as a 501 © (3) nonprofit charitable grassroots community organization, as a result of collaborative effort in Lynn’s business, public and private communities to successfully address the problem of homelessness. Originally named Serving People in Need until 2008, Centerboard’s name change now more accurately describes the constant and careful shepherding and versatility required to effectively guide our client families, much like the keel of a sailboat that tracks its vessel from veering off course. Centerboard has grown into a $15M organization, serving nearly 4,000 people annually via a range of services that support family stability, economic revitalization, and public art & culture. We provide a range of support services that fosters family stability through housing, youth services, family and individual counseling, job preparation and other initiatives that give people “a leg up, not a hand-out”!
