Mission Statement
The primary mission of South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation (South Boston NDC) is to address the displacement of low- and moderate-income South Boston residents by creating and preserving affordable housing. South Boston NDC also provides quality-of-life programming and economic development to increase community engagement in a neighborhood that is experiencing rapid gentrification and demographic change.
About This Cause
South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation (South Boston NDC) is a nonprofit organization based in South Boston, MA, dedicated to addressing the displacement of low- and moderate-income residents by creating and preserving affordable housing. Committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community, South Boston NDC not only focuses on housing initiatives but also provides quality-of-life programming and economic development efforts. This multifaceted approach aims to increase community engagement, ensuring that residents have access to affordable housing options and opportunities for personal and economic growth. South Boston NDC's impact on the community includes: ● Affordable Housing: South Boston NDC currently manages 171 affordable apartments for low- and moderate-income seniors, families, veterans, and working individuals. Our current project, McDevitt Senior Homes, will provide another 35 affordable apartments when completed. ● Economic Development: South Boston NDC supports economic development by providing assistance to local small businesses through its management of the South Boston Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber's business promotion events, including the South Boston Street Fest and Christmas Stroll, encourage local shopping and dining to support the entrepreneurs in the neighborhood. ● Quality of Life: South Boston NDC addresses environmental and climate issues through the creation of green space (we have three community gardens), management of the South Boston Farmers Market, and maintenance of about 30 street tree pits in the West Broadway business district. South Boston NDC has also retrofitted several of its properties in order to reduce costs and energy use for residents, improve their living environments, and mitigate the environmental impact of our portfolio.
