Mission Statement

Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB) is the region’s leading anti-hunger organization distributing over 6 million pounds of donated food and grocery product in partnership with food donors, financial supporters, and volunteers. WCFB provides this product to a network of 120 partner agencies that have programs for feeding people including food pantries, community meal sites, and shelters. WCFB also advocates within the community and at the state and federal levels for systemic and sustainable solutions to the problem of hunger. WCFB’s mission is to engage, educate, and lead Worcester County in creating a hunger-free community. 95 percent of all donated resources go directly towards creating a hunger-free community.

About This Cause

WCFB is the leading anti-hunger organization and the only food bank serving the region. Our goal is to maximize the food, financial, and volunteer resources entrusted to us so we can support our partner agencies in providing meaningful assistance to people in need. We assess the needs of our agencies, secure the resources to meet these needs, and sustain these resources to support our shared mission of feeding hungry people. WCFB collects and inspects perishable and non-perishable food and distributes it through a network of partner agencies to help feed hungry people living in all 60 cities and towns of Worcester County. WCFB trains partner agencies in food safety using a curriculum designed by a registered dietician that incorporates dates, transportation, storage, sanitation, food labels, and time and temperatures. WCFB also provides the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification course, which is recognized by more federal, state, and local health jurisdictions than any other food safety program in the United States. WCFB believes that food is a fundamental right of all people and that hunger is an issue of social justice. WCFB is a leading advocate for promoting access to healthy food by improving the quality of school breakfast and lunch, expanding the summer food service program, and increasing funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, formerly known as Food Stamps. These systemic and sustainable solutions support children, families, and senior citizens in being more food secure and healthy.
