Mission Statement

Circumcision Resource Center in Boston, MA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization with the purpose of informing the public and professionals about the practice of male circumcision. Our mission is to raise awareness about often unrecognized physical, sexual, and psychological harms and facilitate healing.

About This Cause

Since 1991, the Center has been a valuable source of male circumcision information for parents and children’s advocates; childbirth educators and allied professionals; medical, mental health, and academic people; Jews; and others. Our Directors and Professional Advisory Board members consist of researchers and clinicians in the fields of medicine, mental health, and social science. We are pleased to have participated in many television, radio, magazine, and newspaper interviews and have contributed to many books, medical journals, parenting publications, periodicals, and newspapers. We also provide consultation, counseling, referrals, lectures, seminars, and publications. Our information includes summaries, sexual effects, psychological and social concerns and effects, medical and ethical issues, public policy and debate, international perspectives, and what we do not know about circumcision. The United States is the only country in the world that circumcises most of its male infants for non-religious reasons. No national medical organization in the world recommends circumcision. Furthermore, fourteen international organizations have policies that oppose circumcision for many reasons. They include that it is traumatic with many potential complications and risks and involves the loss of a natural, healthy, functioning body part that enhances sexual pleasure. American attitudes toward circumcision are changing because of new awareness. As a result, there is growing concern about this often misunderstood genital surgery. If you are considering circumcision for a child, please take the time read our information. Your child’s physical, sexual, and emotional health depend on your being informed. Ronald Goldman, PhD, a psychological researcher, speaker, consultant, and writer, is the founder and Executive Director. He is internationally known for his expert work on circumcision and is the author of two books on the subject, "Circumcision: The Hidden Trauma" and "Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective." His groundbreaking investigation of the unacknowledged psychological and social aspects of circumcision includes hundreds of contacts with men, parents, Jews, and medical and mental health professionals. As a recognized authority, Dr. Goldman was invited by the Council of Europe as the only non-European to participate in an interdisciplinary dialogue about circumcision. He was also chosen by the Associated Press to comment on circumcision reports from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Various circumcision advocates, including chairpersons of the last two American Academy of Pediatrics Task Forces on Circumcision, have declined to debate with him when invited by national media.
