Mission Statement
Root Capital's mission is to grow rural prosperity by investing in small and growing agricultural businesses that build sustainable livelihoods in Africa and Latin America.
About This Cause
Root Capital is a nonprofit social investment fund that grows rural prosperity in poor, environmentally vulnerable communities in Africa and Latin America by lending capital, delivering financial training, and strengthening market connections for small and growing agricultural businesses. Root Capital clients include enterprises such as coffee cooperatives, that help create sustainable livelihoods by aggregating the products of hundreds, and often, thousands of farmers. As of January 2015, Root capital had disbursed over $790M to more than 500 rural businesses and reached, by extension, 4.3 million household members in rural communities. We provided training to over 600 businesses, including both clients and non-clients. And since we established our Women in Agriculture Program in 2011, we have reached over 170K female farmers.
