Mission Statement
Star Island, one of the nine Isles of Shoals located off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine, is owned by the Star Island Corporation, a non-profit organization which holds and maintains the island as a center for religious, education, and kindred purposes consistent with the principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ.
About This Cause
Star Island Corporation was founded in 1915 and owns Star Island, the 43 acre island six miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. During the summer months, Star Island welcomes families and individuals to explore Star's rugged beauty for a day or take part in weekly programs with a variety of themes such as spirituality, international affairs, the arts and ecology. Star Island Corporation is committed to historic preservation -- the landmark Oceanic Hotel, built in 1876 and other historic buildings are maintained by Star Island Corp -- as well as to sustainability. Our award-winning program, the Green Gosport Initiative combines innovative environmental projects and practices that have put Star at the forefront of sustainability in the region.
