About This Cause
Wood River Health Services is a private, non-profit, Federally Qualified Community Health Center providing top quality medical, dental, and behavioral health care to Southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut residents. A full-service facility providing primary care for families and individuals as well as community resource services, mental health counseling, and a range of lab and imaging work, we also provide a Chronic Care program, Women's Health program, and Nutritional Health program. Wood River Health Services administers the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program for Washington County and provides Insurance Navigator services. Established in 1976, the population served includes rural towns, small mill villages, farms, and the Narragansett Indian Tribe. The area has some of the lowest incomes in the state outside of the inner cities. A second office opened in summer of 2019 in the town of Westerly, near the county's largest low-income residential neighborhoods. Wood River Health Services serves patients with insurance and without, and has instituted self-pay models, sliding scale payments and a Community Fund to help those who could not afford care otherwise.
