Mission Statement
Na'ah Illahee Fund's mission is to support and promote the leadership of Indigenous women in the ongoing regeneration of Indigenous communities in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. We are firmly rooted in Indigenous-led philanthropy and strategic action as we advance self-determination, cultural health, and environmental justice in the Pacific Northwest. Since our inception, we have fostered over 50 projects through fiscal sponsorship and small grants, established multiple intergenerational, urban and rural cohort-based leadership models, and cultivated lasting relationships with individuals from hundreds of tribal nations in North America.
About This Cause
Launched in 2005, NIF is rooted in a history of leadership within Indigenous-led philanthropy and serves as a facilitator and resource partner to elevate Native female-centered activism and leadership. Embedded in community, Indigenous-led philanthropy is modeling an approach that bridges financial investment with grassroots capacity building and leadership development in culturally relevant ways. NIF currently operates with 14 staff members, holds an eight-member Board of Directors, and is a part of a diverse network of community partners and groups. Our work addresses climate and environmental justice, food security and food sovereignty, civic participation, youth leadership, and advancing regenerative economies from a personal to systemic level. Across all of our programs and initiatives, NIF works as: - A Convener that creates and facilitates cohorts, dedicated spaces, and other meaningful opportunities to catalyze a movement toward positive futures; - A Bridge Builder that fosters partnerships, strengthens networks, and builds community among Indigenous peoples and with non-Native partners in our region; and - A Capacity Builder that bolsters Indigenous-led projects and movements with grant funds, resources, technical assistance, and skill-building workshops and support. We prioritize education, skill sharing, and community organizing to ensure that these efforts are healthy and thriving for generations to come. Innovative solutions lie in the brilliance, collective wisdom, and resilience of our people, which is why Indigenous voices and cultural values are built into the decision making within all of our programs. As a regional intertribal organization led by Native women, NIF brings the deep history, experience, and partnership needed to strengthen our communities with lasting impact.
