Mission Statement
Hartford Chorale, as a volunteer not-for-profit organization, presents, on a symphonic scale, masterpieces of great choral art to listeners throughout southern New England and beyond. Hartford Chorale serves as the primary symphonic chorus for the Greater Hartford community. The Chorale provides experienced, talented singers with opportunities to study and perform at a professional level of musicianship. Through its concerts and collaborations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and other organizations, the Chorale seeks to reach and inspire the widest possible audience with exceptional performances of a broad range of choral literature, including renowned choral masterpieces.
About This Cause
The Hartford Chorale was established in 1972 by a group of choral musicians who had the desire to form a new, independent, and self-supporting organization. We are now one of the region’s most renowned symphonic choruses, enjoying critically acclaimed collaborations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra as well as with several other orchestras and sponsors throughout southern New England. Our voices are raised in song to inspire thousands of ears, minds, and hearts. We average 3-5 concerts each season in area concert halls and churches to the delight of approximately 6,000 audience members annually. Potential members are introduced to the Chorale through open rehearsals, and public “conclaves” provide community enrichment and educational experiences. We have a long history of partnership in the Greater Hartford community, participating in First Night Hartford Events, Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and various Greater Hartford Arts Council events. We seek opportunities to include local choruses to join us in performance, including the Church Street Singers, Bloomfield High School, Farmington High School, Manchester High School, Connecticut Children’s Chorus, Voices of Hartford, and more. We provide free and student-priced tickets for community members to attend our events. Hartford Chorale’s dedicated members (130 voices) are avocational singers with professional-quality voices and include musicians, teachers, students, doctors, lawyers, engineers and many more from all walks of life. Members are supported by a small core of professional vocal section leaders, live throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts, and work in many businesses and schools in the region. We also encourage high school and college students to join our intern program – a unique offering with scholarship opportunities. The Hartford Chorale endeavors to perform 3-5 events per season, with at least one self-produced concert each year. We also strive to uphold our reputation for artistic excellence, bringing to our performances our time, talent, and heartfelt dedication under the leadership of a skilled team of musical directors and vocal section leaders.
