About This Cause
KNOX is a community building organization founded in 1966 by philanthropist and Hartford City councilwoman Betty Knox. The organization has successfully evolved into Hartford's premier organization for green jobs and life skills development, meaningful volunteer work, community development, and urban greening. Every program and initiative at KNOX has two equally important goals: 1) to strengthen community relations in each neighborhood and 2) to make a positive impact on the appearance of the city. Whether it is tree plantings, flowering planters, community gardens or graffiti removal, KNOX lives out its mission to grow a stronger, greener and more beautiful capital city. Our programs have a broad reach, touching every city neighborhood and involving community members from each. We build a healthier community, one person, one tree, and one garden at a time.
