About This Cause
Operation Hope of Fairfield, Inc. is a non-profit, 501c3 organization located in Fairfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1986 by a group of concerned citizens, we provide critical services to the hungry, the homeless and those at-risk. The underlying belief in all we do is that no one in our community should go hungry or be without shelter. What started as emergency overnight shelter has evolved into an agency that provides services that meets not only basic and immediate needs, but also long-term solutions like affordable housing and clinical support. The mission of Operation Hope is to provide the opportunity for individuals and families to experience transformative change. By addressing basic needs for food and shelter, as well as offering long-term solutions to hunger and homelessness, including affordable housing, life skills training and personalized clinical support, we help people reach their potential in an environment where compassion inspires dignity and hope. We envision a time when every person in our community has supportive relationships, hope for the future, and a place to call home. The core services provided by our organization include a Food Pantry, Community Kitchen, Shelter for Men, Women, and Families, Affordable Housing, and Clinical Support Services, as well as a Volunteer Program and Community Collaborations. Our talented staff and volunteers are working hard to end homelessness and provide opportunity for the hundreds of people we serve each year. Last year we served over 172,000 meals through our Community Kitchen and Food Pantry. Additionally, 227 people, including 21 children, stayed in our shelter and received clinical support in their time of need; we housed 164 people, including 42 children, in our safe, affordable housing and provided support services to help them remain stably housed and become more self-sufficient; and provided housing, services and leadership to hundreds more through our work in multiple Community Collaborations working towards ending homelessness in our region. What makes Operation Hope unique is that it is a local response to local needs. Programs and services are designed to meet the needs of our struggling neighbors. And it is important that we recognize that providing members of our community an opportunity to serve others is an important part of our mission as well. Each year well over 500 volunteers help us serve and prepare meals, staff our pantry and our reception areas, work on special events, provide professional services, sit on our Board of Directors and Committees, hold food drives, and more. Each day we work to “End hunger and homelessness. One person at a time.” Success Story A letter from a tenant in Operation Hope Affordable Housing Program: “Dear Operation Hope, I would like to take this time to send a very emotional thank you to everyone who has helped me and my children through a very difficult time in our lives. My family and I had to pack up everything that meant the world to us, stuff it in storage, and become practically homeless. Operation Hope took us in and helped us get back on our feet. My children and I, we learned to appreciate each other more, understand each other better, and we learned it doesn’t take a lot to make us happy. We have grown with each other and developed an immense relationship with the staff of Operation Hope. Now that we are blessed with a new home, we realized that it was well worth the wait. Now my children can have a stable home to grow up in and where we can be the great family that we are. We are grateful that we are able to spend our Christmas in a new home, with gratitude in our hearts. We are truly grateful beyond what words can speak . . . Thank you again from the very depths of our hearts.”
